1.25.2008 ---> The Great Void, Mysterious Space, Dreams, and Ordinary Life ...
Hundreds of thousands of particles were pulled by Jupiter's gravity rather than
being spread out through space during the formation of our solar system. These small planets,
or asteroids, are the products of the protoplanetary disc's dense rings of
gas surrounding a newly formed star.
Most asteroids orbit within an area between Jupiter and Mars known as the asteroid belt. These mostly small objects look like tiny specks
of light from earth, if they are visible at all. In addition, the asteroid belts(or rings, rather) surrounding Saturn, Uranus and Neptune are suspects of planet(s) or
satellites that were disintegrated by the mass gravity pull of the large planets themselves.
For years scientists tried to identify specific asteroids, but it wasn't
until 1801 when Giuseppe Piazzi identified the first asteroid: 1 Ceres.
As of April 2006, 330,795 asteroids have been named! And we are constantly
finding more. No one knows exactly how many are there and the single(unit) asteroids themselves constantly break into smaller pieces by gravity of the universe.
The possible impact of asteroids and comets with the Earth's surface could be catastrophic. We need only refer to the extinction of dinosaurs to illustrate this reality. Scientists have made efforts to more closely observe asteroids and detect possible threats.
Beginning with the first close-up images in 1991 by the probe Galileo,
we continue to make new efforts of discovery.
The three most potentially dangerous groups of asteroids to earth
are Apollos, Amors, and Atens. We are also able to learn about asteroid
impact from the effects they have had on other planets and their satellites.

Mainland China Set New Laws on Browsing the Internet
Today, the Chinese government enacted a blanket ban on RSS feeds (Really Simple Syndicating).
We can only assume that this is because RSS feeds are quicker and easier to update.
They can also be uploaded more often, making them much harder to censor than regular web site content.
The iron fist of oppression can only win for so long, however.
Resourceful users have several workarounds at their disposal like a Firefox
(a popular web browser) extension Gladder and the anonymous web browsing tool bar.
The latest offensive in Chinese president Hu Jintao's hilarious mission to "clean up Internet culture" is a freeze on the licensing new Internet cafés.
At the same time, the communist government is investigating the illegal renting of licenses and the failure of cafés to properly register its users.
After the U.S., China is home to the world's second biggest online population and is projected to strip us of that Internet gold medal within the next two years.
Though the government somewhat encourages the use of the Web for business and education, it's a longtime offender when it comes to censorship, even completely blocking access to Google at one point.
In fact, the only reason the search giant was let back into the country was because it censored itself for Chinese users.
China's defense for its strict governance of the Internet is that it believes young people are being corrupted by gambling, porn and violent video games.
And no doubt a little bit of freedom of speech, as well.
Yesterday, China closed down 44,000 websites accusing them of pornography.

Teenager's Recovery and Change of Blood-Group Hailed as Miracle
[ CANBERRA, AU (Jan. 25, 2008) - An Australian teenage girl has become the world's first known transplant patient to change blood groups and take on the immune system of her organ donor,
doctors calling her a "one-in-six-billion miracle." ]
Now at age 15, Demi-Lee Brennan, is the first known transplant recipient to adopt the blood type and the
immune system of her organ donor, to the amazement of the medical community and Brennan alike.
"It's like my second chance at life," she said. "It's kind of hard to believe."
Demi-Lee Brennan received a donor liver when she was 9 years old and her own liver failed.
"It's like my second chance at life," Brennan told local media, recounting how her body achieved what doctors said was a miracle of transplant surgery.
Brennan's body changed blood group from O negative(O-) to O positive(O+) when she became ill while on drugs to avoid rejection of the organ by her body's immune system.
Her new liver's blood stem cells then invaded her body's bone marrow to take over her entire immune system, meaning the teen no longer needs anti-rejection drugs.
Doctors from Sydney's Westmead Childrens' Hospital said they had no explanation for Brennan's recovery, detailed in the latest edition of The New England Journal of Medicine.

Near - Death Experiences and Life After Death
People who were once near death have sometimes
reported various mystical experiences such as going into a
tunnel and emerging in a light, being reunited with loved ones,
a sense of peace, etc., that may suggest an existence beyond the grave.
While such experiences are profound, no one has returned with proof or
verifiable information from "beyond the grave." Skeptics suggest that
the experiences are explainable as natural and predictable hallucinations
of a traumatized brain, yet there is no way to know with certainty what causes
near-death experiences, or if they truly are visions of "the other side."

Following the social networking trend is this one: www.sideworld.com. An Asian-style of that Facebook/mySpace from S. Korea
that is becoming popular. The layout; page elements of 'Sideworld' has an Asian flare that is typically not found in western-oriented websites.

1.14.2008 ---> Gold Diggers and Tomb Raiders.
Treasures from a Tomb
The main purpose of the pyramids was to safeguard the pharaoh's bodies. Granite doors, false passages, trapped floors,
and empty burial rooms were construsted in an attempt to confuse the treasure hunters. However, in spite of all these
precautions, nearlly all the pyramids were robbed of their wealth by around 1000B.C.. The top God of the pyramids are:
Osirus, God of the dead. Isis, wife of Osiris and goddess of the dead. Ra, sun god. Anubus, god of embalming.
The Egyptians believed that life after death was very similar to life on earth. Their dead, therefore, had to be protected and presereved for the
next life. The pyramid's job was to protect the body. To preserve the body,
a precess known as mummification was developed around 2600B.C.. Mummification may take as long
as 70 days. First the brain was removed(from the nostrils!) Next the other ital
organs were taken out. They were put in seperate tightly sealed jars except the brain. The
Egyptians threw away the brain of a dead person becuase they didn't know what
it was. They thought it was the heart that did all the thinking. The body was then dried out
for about 40 days in the sun. The Egyptions used a salt compuond called natron to do
this. In the next stage, the body was embalmed. That means it was treated with molten resin
and perfumed oils. Finally, the body was wrapped in linen bandages.
The mummy of Nesmutaatneru's bandaging took about 2 weeks and about 410 yards of linen; the length from the top to the
bottom of the Empire State Building.
Pharaoh Tutankhamun became king when was nine years old (1333B.C.). Ten years
later he died. King Tut's is the only royal burial in the Valley of the Kings that was
practically undesturbed by the robbers. In 1922, after many years of excavating
, the archeaologist Howard Carter found a sealed entrance to Tut's tomb. In the first room
were thrones, vases, chariots, statues, jewelry, and ostrich-feather fans among other item.
Four coffins protected the mummy. The third was made of 2,500 pounds of gold. It is estimated the
gold used for that third coffins costs USD $13,000,000 in today's monetary rate.
Mummies tell us about life in ancient Egypt. For example the decayed teeth in many mummies suggest that ancient
Egyptians, like many people today, eat too much sweet.

I did not see the movie but got this in the news.
"The Bucket List" which released this past Friday(01/11/08) did well this weekend with a total of USD $19 million. Starring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman. Checkout the movie trailer at
www.netflix.com and other 20+ movies now in U.S. theaters.
I mentioned the movie for being Nicholson and Freeman's fan. My favorite John Mayer's songs are presented in "The Bucket List" as well.

New to the music scene is Ingrid Michaelson who will be headlining in San Francisco Jan.23.2008. Great voice and her song "the Way I am" was the most requested on Bay Area radio stations last week. I've listened
to that for at least a dozen times and fully recommended.
Concert tickets available @: www.ticketmaster.com and
