1.10.2008 ---> Um, looks like ADVERTISEMENT...
No, no. Just information to pass it on to you.
Did you know? The color for this year is BLUE. Any shade/variety of blue.
Read more:
Fashion and Color for 2008 (via Yahoo! News).
A Message from the Past
A real story of a Christmas card that arrived after 93 years
in the mail. Don't be scared. It's not ghost related.
>> In the Mail.
Compiled List of Records in 2007
65 million Americans traveled in Chirstmas.
Blogs started a decade ago. To date (at time of this entry) there are approximately 500 million journal/blog entries(yes, that includes ours!) on the internet.
It is estimated that probably 100,000 new blog sites are being created each day.
Most searched topic/word/phrase compiled by Google. [ not listed in order of popularity ]
New inventions. Gagets of the year.
Celebraties. Candidates (Presidential hopefuls) in the U.S..
Social networking sites.
Weather. News. Sports or Sports news.
Movies.
Google says looking at the searched topics indicates the trend of the year (in this case 2007) that we are living in. (or lived in; as of now - 2008 looking back to the previous year)
Crude oil reached USD $100 at end of 2007. It costed only USD $14 in 1994, USD $47 in 2002.
The price falled a bit in first week of this year @ USD $97/barrel.
Average price at the pump in North America is USD $3.15. City of San Francisco is the most expensive place to pay for gas at around USD $4/gal. in the U.S..
Followed by cities in the Silicon Valley/Bay Area.
20% of ice sheets in the arctic are gone. Scientists estimate the whole region of north pole will disappear in 10-25 years in current rate of global warming.
The world's tiniest island republic nation - Nauru's coastline will be submerged in 5-8 years, as it is only 0.8m above sea level in average; the highest hill on the biggest island is only 253m. The total melting of the arctic will cover
a height of 1.7m at the coasts of Nauru.
Did you see the list of "Worst Dressed Artists of the Year 2007"?
It came out last week.
Well, disappointed me that Avril Lavigne(one of my favorite female singer) was on the list. People voted she dress like for Halloween. I agree. Although it's her choice of style and
that doesn't alter her song writing ability and voice. Btw, her name means: Avril(French for "April"); Lavigne[la vigne](French for "the Vine/the vineyard. Pronounciation: Le v'een). So her name literally means - April vineyard/April vine in English.
Links on Yahoo! searched index page: more about A.L. .
Amy Winehouse is also in the list; a favorite of many of you. I'm not a big fan of hers anyway.
Colbie Caillat(pronounciation: Kall-ay); another of my favorite is in the top ten chart for best selling albums for the year 2007 - her debut album Coco just released July 17, 2007. Among the tracks in that CD Bubbly remains on top. She named her first album Coco as she revealed that is her nickname.
She's known as the "MySpace Girl" since she was discovered by record companies there 2 years ago. Is that how you get famous? Post your talent(s) like songs you wrote, your gigs(on stage act; performing arts), your movie/video clips and create
an account on the MySpace website to share with us. Who knows, someday you might be discovered by those "STAR PATROLS". Or show your artwork, stories/diary/poem that might be of publisher's interest.
If you like hearing a girl with her acoustic guitar - go for her first ever CD. Btw, she writes her own songs and lyrics - another talent of hers.
Clinton, Obama, McCain, Huckabee, Giuliani and Biden (a few presidential hopefuls) have their own MySpace page as well. You may watch their campaign there.

Internet Speed
Log on to: www.speedeasy.com
to test your modem/internet speed and see if it's worth what you are paying for. Some
companies(ISP) that provide internet sevice do not live up to what they claim on the
speed they provide to customers. It could be your computer's internal problem which is unrelated to the
provided service. There are tools in this website to test your machine and remedies fixing (it)them.
The Real Cost
Manufacturers now cut the price down to USD $5 (cost for producing) per blue chip for Bluetooth.
Wireless devices drain lots of battery life. Solar now become popular choice.
The Bluetooth headset enters era of utilizing any light source in the house(or in enclosed environments)
to generate electricity for the device.
Now consumers can use mobile/celphone as remote control for home appliances when they are not at home.
For example: you can turn on/off the lights when your away from
home(very useful if you forgot to turn off the lights); turn on the washing machine or dish washer; record your favorite shows
on TV while in office; turn on the air-con(If it doesn't have a timer. Even with a timer you can change the settings anytime away from home) and let the house cool down before you arrive home after work in summer, turn on the oven or microwave while shopping and
dinner is done before you come home...etc. Phone companies are now providing
this service. Of course, the end receiver(appliances/fixtures) must
have a remote sensor installed and a subscription of this service from your
phone company. Best way to multitasking. Doing several things simultaneously
saves time. Just think about washing cloths in the house remotely while you are on vacation.

1.8.2008 ---> Globalization. Economism(is this a word?). Consumerism. Materialism. What else?
January is National Tea Month. Sip a cup of hot tea in cold weather really
soothes us. In fact, I am a tea pitcher as well as a coffee mug. Whenever possible, I
get coffee over tea... mmm... . To me, COFFEE is - booze of life. Need a surge? (not that
"SURGE" for war in Iraq!). Coffee keeps me revitalized. Although tea does the same while it
takes two(x2) times that amount to keep me going. So, COFFEE wins.
What do you consume to keep you fired-up?
:: the BLACK GOLD ::
Wow, price of crude oil exceeded record high at $100 per barrel at end of December 2007 due to political instability in the Middle East.
But checkout this guy (forgot the URL of the site I visited. And I am not making the following up):
Remember all those times you drove an extra few miles on empty,
just so you could avoid paying $3 a gallon for a little bit longer?
Rising gas prices cuase headaches, and I'm confident everyone hates dropping
hundreds of dollars a month just to drive their cars.
Well, everyone except Tom Cruise. Our favorite Scientologist
is worth mountains of money (some say up to $250 million).
To that I was surprised that he spends $1M of that fortune per year just on fuel.
The movie king owns four private planes, several
cars, trucks, yacht and whatever else. He was listed
in the top 20 celebrities in 2007 for being not EARTH FRIENDLY- not green enough by voters.
Hey, he use gasoline as if it were water.
Additional information to price hike on oil: USD $100 a barrel.
:: FOOD for THOUGHT ::
As if there weren't enough reasons to stay away from sodas,
here's another one. Researchers recently said that ordinary soft drinks
containing too much sugar can end up increasing serum uric acid levels.
What does that lead to? An increase in the risk of developing gout.
Gout is not only dangerous, but extremely painful.
When gout happens, too much uric acid (caused by the breakdown of sugars from soft drinks) causes painful crystals to develop in the joints. Underexcretion (not visiting the restroom often) also contributes to the condition.
Want a great New Year's resolution? Start shaking off sodas from your daily regimen now.

Boost your brain power with these foods and beverages: (not listed in order of preference) ∇∇
>> Chocolate. (as little amount as a piece of Hershey's "KISSES" is enough to boost your brain power and make you happy and heart smile. But who can resist only one(1) Hershey's "KISSES"); Hot or cold chocolate drink is an alternative to solids.
>> Garlic. *If consumed more than 5 cloves within a day - Garlic thins the consistancy of blood which make an individual bleed heavily if occured in a life-threatening injury or during surgery. Something garlic lovers must consider and be cautious of.
Used in the right amount, it helps the heart pump blood efficiently(the thinning of blood) and promotes healthy circulation in the body, which in turn sends more nutrients/oxigen to the brain.
Our brain uses 25% of our total energy in any given time despite it weighs only 1.5kg - 2.8kg in adults.
>> Onion.
>>Spinach.
>>Almond. *Eat a handful of almond a day also makes skin healthy(it's full of vitamin E) and keeps the heart strong.
>>Soy bean, or tofu; bean curd / Soymilk.
>>Chicken or duck egg.
>> Fish [top choices: Tuna, Salmon(Pink variety; not the White) , Halibut, and Sardine]. Yay, sounds fishy, feeling fishy, or something fishy?
>> Banana.
>> Avocado.
>> Milk.
>> Coffee (not decaffed).
>> Tea (not decaffed).
*Do not exceed 6 cups in a day - including decaffeined. Tea blocks absorbtion of calcium.
It also decreases bone mass.
>> Curry.
>> Ketchup or tomato paste(such as those on pizzas or in spaghetti sauce). (2 teaspoons a day may decrease brain aging.)

AOL dropping support/development of Netscape
Netscape Navigator; or simply Netscape, the world's first commercial
Web browser and the
launch pad of the Internet boom, will be pulled off Feb. 1, 2008,
after a 13-year market presence. Its current caretaker, AOL(America Online) - subdivision
of Time Warner Inc.'s, decided
to stop further development and technical support to focus on expanding the
company as an advertising business. Netscape's use battled with Microsoft Corporation's
Internet Explorer(aka IE) entry into the browser business in 1994, and Netscape gradually faded away following the
birth of its open-source sibling, Firefox. To date, only 20% internet users use Netscape browsers
comparing to 60% dominate by IE, with the remaining 20% using other types of browsers. "While internal groups within AOL have
invested a great deal of time and energy in attempting to revive
Netscape Navigator, these efforts have not been successful in gaining market
share from Microsoft's Internet Explorer," Netscape Director Tom Drapeau wrote
in a blog entry Friday, December 28, 2007. Internet goers will still be able to download and use the Netscape
browsers indefinitely, but AOL will stop releasing security and other
updates Feb. 1, 2008. Mr. Drapeau recommended that the small base of Netscape users
download Firefox instead. >>

McDonald's Eat Starbucks
Hello Uncle Mac!!!
It's anyone's guess - all about money. BIG MAC/McDaddy is now offering coffee(not just the regular they sell already for years) but
the ones similar on Starbucks menu, e.g. latté, cappucino, expresso, iced, frothed, flavored and what not. Items are on the board right now which appeared on
January 1, 2008 in their stores worldwide. McDonald's currently has around 16,000 stores around the world, of which about 5,000 locations are in
the U.S. alone. Uncle Mac estimates the new coffee lineup will help the company rake in USD $1 billion per year. !!! AMAZING !!! You read that
right. Just selling coffee alone brings in $$$. I'm Thrilled. Also, McDonald's buys in and sells more chicken than any other restaurants, super markets,
hotels and food related industries in the U.S.. The large portions of chicken are used in their chicken nuggets, chicken tenders(aka chiken strips), McChicken
Sandwiches and McSalads. Big business for farmer(s) who raise chickens for McDonald's. Btw, a potato planter in the state of Oregon
exclusively grows potatoes for McDonald's french fries and hash browns. From that, he earns USD $5 million a year just for selling potatoes to BIG MAC!
Starbucks now offers breakfast items on their menu in response to McDonald's attitude for stealing the coffee market after a week (on January 7, 2008).
Some items are similar to McDaddy's such as: hot cinnamon rolls, pancakes, muffin/bagel/cup cakes,
burritos/snack wraps, and a new variety of cookies in addition to the ones they already sell.
In my opinion, Starbucks will be a success had they enter the MAIN STREAM as a restuarant, not just in the Bakery/Coffee shop/Snack store sector. I think they
have the ability to create delicious dishes; meals.
What I find interesting: One is RED (color of McDonald's); the other is GREEN (color of Starbucks). Rival colors of traffic light.
I'm YELLOW (well, maybe).
Speaking of traffic leads us to the following topic. See below.
2008 New Traffic Law in California, USA
1. No smoking in the car if a child under 12-years old is present. Effective January 1, 2008.
2. Those of you who still talk on phone while driving...break the habbit.
Hand-held celphones are not allowed to be used in cars in motion; drivers may use headset with microphone and/or on-board talking device(s). Park on the roadside if you need to use your celphone that require hands.
First-time offenders if caught will be fined USD $100. Effective June 1, 2008. Ample time for drivers to adjust before the law takes effect.
