Founded: In the begining it was two companies - Luft and Hansa.
Airline established January, 1926 as Luft Hansa.
In years prior to WW II it was one of the world's leading airlines. After war outbreak in 1939 it was only able to maintain
services to neutral countries, and finally lead to the suspension of all flights following the defeat of Germany in
August 1945.
On August 6, 1954 renamed as Lufthansa and set about to re-establish its pre-war network. Operations re-started May 15, 1955 to
first North America international point after WW II - New York, and the first Far East service to Tokyo in 1964.
